All right, what’s happening out there today? For starters, some aid is finally getting to Haiti, although Voice of America says emergency workers are having trouble distributing it because everything’s such a mess down there. People are trying to get out of the capital, Port-au-Prince, where it’s crowded and chaotic and looters are out and about. But transportation is hard to find, says The Washington Post.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is in Haiti now.And check this out, cruise ships are still docking in other parts of Haiti, which sounds awful, but the cruise operators say cutting back on Haiti stops right now would only cost the country precious tourist dollars. Which is an interesting point, although I’m still uncomfortable with rich people playing on the beach while thousands are homeless and injured less than 100 miles away. It sounds like some of the vacationers are upset by it, too.
